PLANT DESCRIPTION

HABIT :  A prostrate or suberect, glabrous or sparsely hairy herbs often with radially spreading branches.
LEAVES :  1 - 4.5 x 0.9 - 3.5 cm, ovate - oblong ornearly orbicular, glabrous above, sparsely hairy beneath.
INFLORESCENCE :  Racemes
FLOWERS :  Purple or violet, in 3 - 7 cm long, terminal and axillary, lax or compact racemes.
FRUIT :  Pods 1.3 - 2.5 cm long, 6 - 8 jointed, reticulately veined, at length glabrous.
SEEDS :  Ellipsoid - oblong, glabrous, brown, smooth.
FLOWERING AND FRUITING TIME :  July - December

MEDICINAL USES

A decoction of the roots is used as a treatment against coughs.
The roots are chewed as a treatment for fevers.
An infusion of the powdered seeds is used as a remedy for dysentery and colic.
The whole plant is used medicinally for treating sword wounds and bone fractures.
