PLANT DESCRIPTION

HABIT :  A small thorny tree.
STEM:  stem water latex, corky.
LEAVES :  Small, ovate or roundish, slightly oblique, glabrous above, buff hairy below, 3-nerved, stipulate, stipules spiny-one straight and other hooked.
FLOWERS :  Greenish-yellow, axillary cymes. Calyx 5-fid, hairy. Petals 5, hooked, rounded. Stamens 5, enclosed in the petals. Disk with 10 grooved lobes. Ovary half sunk in disk, ovoid, styles 2, connate for about half their length.
FRUIT :  Globose, smooth, yellow, red all when ripe.
FLOWERING AND FRUITING TIME :  September - October

MEDICINAL USES

Ziziphus mauritiana has found 2.2% alkaloids,92.65% saponins and 5 µg/ml tannins in dried bark.
The results of studies have exhibited that it is effective in anti-cancer and liver damage treatment (Bhatt and Dhyani, 2013).
According to this study, it was found that the various parts of this plant are used in the treatment of in fever, indigestion, liver disease, diarrhea, wound healing and jaundice
